Adaptive Process Management

This document is intended for introducing the research work carried on by the student Massimiliano de Leoni, who started his Ph.D. program in the XXI cycle. de Leoni’s research work is about devising a Service-Oriented Adaptive Architecture on very dynamic pervasive environments (such as PDAs connected in a Mobile Ad-hoc Network). Section 2 introduces motivations about the importance of such a research field, together with a possible application scenario in disaster-recovery settings. The adaptiveness problem in very dynamic environments is an open issue as it has not been ever dealt with in other previous works, as argued in Section 3. Indeed, the adaptiveness has to be automatic because the context changes continually anytime. Section 4 introduces some details about an initial architecture proposal addressing the problem. Moreover, some initial experimental results are given. Section 5 illustrates the future directions to go on researching in this field.
